Reply with quote | #1 | Hi everyone, I thought maybe we should start out by introducing ourselves and discussing our weightloss goals. My name is Amy (aka rejoicingveggirl) I am 41, and the older i get the harder it is to lose weight (and the easier it is to gain!) I have 35 pounds to lose. My biggest problem is snacking. I also have been eating a lot of vegan "convenience" type foods (the Amy's frozen entres are yummy but tons of calories) Anyway I am getting better as i learn more vegan recipes. I look forward to getting to know you and supporting each other in this vegan weightloss journey.
Who else will join in the fun? |

I don't need to lose anymore but enjoy maintaining my weight. I've lost 80 pounds and my goal is to stay in the 118-126 range. I'm 125 ATM. I lost the weight eating a mostly raw foods diet. This year I've become vegan and am trying to eat in a healthy balanced way. |

Hello. I'm Bonnie. I'm 46 and I've lost 100 pounds since Feb '07. I still have 30 or so to go. (Actually, I have no idea how much more I want to loose since I have not been of "normal" weight since I was six years old!!!) I became vegan in June and was (an obese) ovo-lacto vegetarian for about 20 years before that. What a total joy being vegan has been! It has made such a difference in my outlook on life and the peace I feel! I've been following Dr. Furhman's "Eat To Live" and love the program! I am anxious to get back on track after being "off track" for two weeks during the holidays. The first week off track was because we were staying with non-veg relatives. We ended up eating a lot of bread, pasta and processed (but oh-so-yummy!) vegan foods. I also made a lot of goodies from JOVB to the delight of all. The second week off track was because it was so much fun eating all those yummy foods while away from home, I went out and bought them and brought them into my own home (along with even more JOVB!) Fun... but not at all a smart choice for me. Time to get rid of the junk food and back to the fruits and veggies! My big challenge is keeping my husband gastronomically satisfied while I follow the "Eat To Live" program. He became vegan when I did, but prefers more bread, pasta, and JOVB baked goods. He's been thrilled with the way we've been eating the last two weeks and is secretly dreading the impending end of all the junk food and baked goods. I am looking forward to hearing from others on this forum as I rekindle my weight loss motivation and momentum and eventually learn to live the rest of my life as a healthy, slim, joyful vegan forever! Joy and peace to all! |

Reply with quote | #5 | My name is Michelle and I have lost 45lbs so far. I would like to lose another 85lbs . I have a long way to go, but I know I will get there. I started losing weight about a year and half ago when I stopped eating meat I lost about 25lbs. When I went to a vegan diet a year ago I lost another 20lbs.
I tend to lose weight very slowly. This is partially due to lack of exercise and having a thyroid imbalance. My goals are to find a form of exercise I will stick with and enjoy and eat more fresh fruits and veggies.
Currently I am getting ready to do "The Ultra Simple Diet" I have not had any gluten since Dec. 14th and I am working on cutting down caffeine and soy now. I am doing this diet at a naturopaths recommendation. |

Reply with quote | #6 | Hi I'm Aoife. I'm 15 almost 16. I'm trying to lose weight. I know it looks bad but I became a vegan for ethical reasons but the weight is just falling off. I'm aware it can look like I'm not eating, but really I'm just not eating animal products.
I don't weigh myself. We don't have a weighing scales at home and I'm thankful. I weighed myself recently at my aunts and it was a little depressing as I hadn't weighed myself since I was 12. Obviously, since I hit puberty I put on a load of weight, but it was depressing anyway. I've been overweight pretty much my entire life.
I think I have lost a good bit of weight. I dropped over one dress size. I was around a UK 14 (UK not US) but some size 12 clothes are too big on me now. It's great, but nothing in my wardrobe fits me now... And I'm a broke student so my wardrobe is pretty much empty. |

Reply with quote | #7 | Hi Michelle,
How is "The Ultra Simple Diet" going? I checked out the website, and it looks very interesting. But as anyone who has struggled with a weight problem can understand, I was skeptical. Can you tell me more about the plan. I can only see a little on the website without buying the book.
I need to lose about 50 pounds. I attend weight watcher meetings but am not really following the program. I am kind of at a loss of what to do at this point.

Reply with quote | #8 | Hi everyone! My name is Courtney and I'm 28. Been a vegan since April 2008 but have been veg for about 11 years before that. I've lost about 15 lbs since since April. I have about 10-15 lbs more to lose. Hoping since holidays are over I'll be able to meet my goal. My son is also vegan and its so hard not to eat all the goodies that I make for him to snack on. |

Reply with quote | #9 | Hi, everybody... I'm Jill. I'm 25 and have been vegetarian for a year or so. I've been vegan for about a month, but it's amazing how much better I feel- inside and out. And as a nice side effect, I've lost about 6 lbs already after struggling for the last year to get back to my ideal weight. I'm also training for my 2nd mini-marathon, so I'm thinking that can't hurt the weight loss! I've got about 10 more to go, so wish me luck! |

Reply with quote | #10 | Good luck!!! I used to weigh myself everyday, as a vegetarian, but on January 1st I became a vegan and threw my scale away. I was visiting my parents last weekend and I stepped on their scale and I was down 6 pounds. I was shocked!! The fact that I am not obsessed with the number on the scale, has freed me to eat avocados, nuts, oils, potatoes, and pasta. I never ate these foods when I weighed myself daily. Apparently, my body is very happy with these foods! I feel fantastic. My spirit is happier and my body is happier . |

Reply with quote | #11 | That's awesome! I find the same thing kind of works for me. When I start counting calories, I get obsessed with making sure I'm not going over, and somehow I end up eating more! The "Skinny Bitch" book was a real eye-opener for me as far as food goes and how your body handles it. Apparently my body loves those yummy foods too! |

Reply with quote | #14 | I'm Sisi, I've only lost 23 lb so far, but I'm really glad to be on my way. I've been vegan for almost a year now and the most helpful thing for me has been reading Becoming Vegan, because I was a dumb vegan for quite some time.
My problem has never been what I eat, it's my portion size. That's why I didn't lose any weight when I became vegan. But now that I'm paying attention, I have had success. |

Reply with quote | #16 | Jenn, I would highly recommend looking into team in training. I did a marathon with them eight years ago and it was an amazing life changing experience! If you haven't heard of them it is a program with the luekiemia and lymphoma society. They train you and you do group runs and stuff and you raise money for the cause. I cannot say enough good about the experience!!!!!!!!!
Congratualations of your weight loss! |

Reply with quote | #18 | Hello all... I have been a "strict" vegetarian/vegetarian for about 5 1/2 years and have been trying to go vegan for about 1 1/2 years most of that is lack of effort on my part. I am now ready to follow through with my compassion and to make that step.
I am 31 years old and will be 32 next month. I am currently at 235ish and I feel every bit of it. This is the most that I have weighed. I could defently stand to loose 100 lbs. In the last few months, I have been walking around my neighborhood; although, inconsistently. My goal is to walk at least every other day seeing as how I like to walk and get lost in listening to Colleen on my Ipod.
Thanks |

Reply with quote | #19 | Karleana, Hoping to give you some encouragement. As someone who has struggled with her weight, I wanted to encourage you to keep walking. Fit it in when you can. Eventually more walks or longer walks will likely be a result. I walk to keep in shape for my true passion...hiking. I focus on feeling good, taking care of myself, and leading a compassionate, vegan life and don't stress too much over the scale. Lately, I discovered the yoga today podcasts and yogatoday.com The podcasts and classes are free and I love them. This is coming from someone who generally hates indoor exercise. Starting my day with even a short yoga session has helped be feel better throughout the day and the better I feel, the more likely I am to take a walk and eat healthy, whole foods.

Happy note... I walked 5 1/2 miles on Friday morning. It took 2 1/4 hours. Not bad I'd say. |

I became Vegan half way through Skinny B1tch. I picked up the book having no idea what it was about other than, presumably weight loss and man, did it work! Tomorrow marks 60 days Vegan for me and I've lost fifteen pounds, which by itself has inspired me to be much more active. I am now riding my bike everywhere I can, including ten miles to work and ten miles home each day, doing yoga and going on little walks whenever I can. I used to have to pry myself off the couch to do any of these things which I would usually do only once per month. I don't have too much to lose. My current weight is 159 (I'm 5' 9") and while I don't have a goal, per se, I can't say it wouldn't be nice to be under 150 pounds- which I haven't been in over 5 years or under 140 which I haven't been since middle school. What I really appreciate is that even though I started this for weight loss reasons, my compassion has grown and I had no idea how much being Vegan would change my life for the better. In six months, I will march into my thirties in the best shape of my life! __________________ Melissa Ryan Leitch |
